Finding Home and Heart: Hannah King's Journey to the SHERO Heart Award

Last week, I had the incredible honor of receiving the SHERO Heart Award during Frederick County Chamber's SHE Week. This recognition was given to me as a business owner who embodies what it means to create a supportive community with heart and compassion. It’s a moment that still feels surreal, and as I reflect on this journey, I can’t help but feel the timing was divinely orchestrated.

A Surprising Win and Perfect Timing

A few weeks ago, I was completely surprised by the news of my nomination and subsequent win. As I’ve taken time to process this, I realize that the timing of this award couldn’t be more perfect. August isn’t just Squadstyle’s third birthday; it also marks a personal milestone for me—the anniversary of when I first set foot in the U.S. on August 10, 2015. The years that followed were filled with questions about where I belong and where I want to go.

The Early Struggles: Doubt, Burnout, and Resilience

The first year or two of Squadstyle was a whirlwind of sweat, tears, and doubt. I poured every ounce of myself into building this space and creating systems while still juggling my personal training business. There were moments of burnout and nights when I wondered if people would even come to Squadstyle.

Was I doing the right thing?

Could this dream really become a reality?

A Community Built on Unconditional Support

But through it all, it was my community—my friends, family, and supporters—who believed in me even when I couldn’t believe in myself. They pushed me out of my comfort zone, saw the potential in Squadstyle, and encouraged me to keep going. Their unwavering support has been the bedrock upon which Squadstyle has grown, and it’s something I will always be grateful for.

Realizing the True Purpose of Squadstyle

This year, it hit me hard: I built this community because I needed it just as much as anyone else. Squadstyle has become my chosen home, a place where wellness isn’t just a concept but a way of life. It’s a culture where we support each other, embrace vulnerability, and find strength in our shared humanity. In a world that often feels disconnected, Squadstyle is my anchor—a space where wellness thrives and genuine connections are made.

Seeing Myself Through My Community’s Eyes

This award is more than just a recognition of my efforts; it’s a validation of my journey over the past year. I’ve learned to see myself as my community sees me, recognizing that every action I take comes from a place of care, love, and with my heart fully behind it. Of course, this realization didn’t come easily—it hit me during a yoga class (thanks to Chacha King) where I found myself sobbing in child’s pose, overwhelmed by the truth of it all.

Embracing the Journey and Looking Ahead

As I continue this journey, I’m reminded of the power of community, the importance of wellness, and the beauty of embracing who we truly are. This SHERO Heart Award is a symbol of that journey—one that’s been filled with challenges, growth, and an unwavering commitment to creating a space where everyone feels at home.

And, as if it was all aligned by the stars, this realization and recognition came during the 8/8 Lion’s Gate Portal—a time known for powerful transformations. Divine timing, indeed.

Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this journey. Your support means the world to me, and I’m excited to see where we go from here. Here’s to continuing to build, grow, and support each other with heart and compassion.

Be well,

Hannah King
